A strong sense of vitality and well- being is the birthright of each of us. Homeopathy applies principles known from antiquity to engage the innate healing mechanisms within an individual, gently eradicating imbalance and restoring health. This is accomplished by using highly diluted preparations of natural substances. The practice of homeopathy is a blend of art and science, knowledge and perception, and can be as rewarding for the practitioner as it is to the client. How does it work? The basic tenet underlying the homeopathic method is that like cures like. For the last 200 years, since the founding of classical homeopathic practices by Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant and innovative German physician, meticulous scientific studies called provings have been rigorously conducted to determine the effects of natural substances in healthy volunteers. In recent years, Nobel Prize -winning research in the field of quantum physics is shedding light on on how it works; until recently, we could be sure that it worked but with no explanation of the underlying mechanisms. Where do remedies come from? Minerals, plants and their extracts, and a variety animal sources provide the thousands of remedies respectfully obtained and used in homeopathic healing. The substance is specially prepared in an FDA-regulated homeopathic pharmacy through a series of dilutions. After each dilution the mixture is vigorously agitated in a machine that delivers a calibrated amount of shaking. This is called succussion. This process imprints a unique energetic pattern from the medicinal substance throughout the solution of water. This is called potentization. The end product contains no molecules of the original substance, but does carry a unique energetic imprint specific to the original plant, mineral or animal. The resultant remedy is capable of eliminating, in the person who suffers from them, symptoms similar to those produced in the proving. Is homeopathy safe? Homeopathic remedies are safe, non-toxic, have no side effects, and are available without prescription. They are sustainably prepared and humanely procured, and are inexpensive to produce and purchase. They never lose their effectiveness if stored correctly. It is truly green medicine, the medicine of the future. Homeopathy is widely practiced all over the world, and is becoming more popular in this country as interest grows in the areas of authentic approaches to health. Although the principles underlying the homeopathic method are simple, the art is less so, and requires expertise in case-taking and familiarity with the vast body of homeopathic knowledge called material medica. What can homeopathy treat? Homeopathy treats the human condition. It has wide application, from acute fevers, sore throats and toothache, to chronic illnesses such as arthritis, eczema, asthma, anxiety, mild depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, autism, PTSD and traumatic brain injury. The individual who suffers, rather than the disease itself or its symptoms, is the focal point of the homeopathic process.
